Destinations
Enjoy a magnificent view of the town of Bad Liebenzell from Liebenzell Castle. The castle was built at the beginning of the 12th century by the Counts of Eberstein to protect their possessions on the Nagold River. From the 16th century onwards, the castle fell into disrepair, with the exception of the defiant tower and the shield wall, until it was rebuilt in 1953 as a venue for international encounters.
The Monbachtal valley is a special natural attraction. This gorge was formed around 350,000 years ago when the Nagold river cut its way through the sandstone of the Monbachtal valley. Huge masses of water transported debris and stones here, forming the picturesque Monbachtal gorge, which is now a nature reserve. Here, nature remains unspoilt.

Museums and
nature trails
You can immerse yourself in fascinating worlds in the museums and nature trails in and around Bad Liebenzell. On the Waldhufendorf themed trail, you can experience the medieval world of settlers, learn about life in Bad Liebenzell in times gone by in the local history museum, and discover the importance of our native medicinal herbs in the apothecary's garden.
Bad Liebenzell from earlier days
Since 2021, visitors to the local history museum in the ‘Ochsenscheuer’ have been able to experience Bad Liebenzell as it was in days gone by. The museum is divided into different themed areas and shows what life was like in Bad Liebenzell in times past.
The local history museum was lovingly designed and furnished by the Bad Liebenzell Local History Association. It was opened on 12 September 2021, on Open Monument Day, in the Ochsenscheuer, a building constructed in 1776.
A special pastor
The permanent exhibition in the Gottliebin-Dittus-Haus shows the life and work of Johann Christoph Blumhardt. He was a pastor in Möttlingen from 1838 to 1852 and became famous for various prayer healings, most notably that of Gottliebin Dittus, whom he accompanied spiritually for over two years.
The example of Gottliebin shows how Blumhardt helped a troubled person find a healthy and fulfilled life. Images vividly convey the life of Blumhardt, who is quoted extensively by his contemporaries, inviting readers to explore further on their own.
Das Element Wasser
In the old listed mill on the Längenbach stream, the element of water is brought to life in a tangible way for young and old alike. With interactive stations for experimenting and trying things out, the permanent exhibition comprehensively covers scientific, technical, cultural, artistic, mythological, aesthetic, ecological, economic and political aspects and manifestations of the theme of water.
The various topics of myths, experiments, ecology, cymatics, sustainability and medicine can be actively and playfully experienced. This also encourages discussion. The historical, social, political, ethical, (agricultural) economic, regional and intercultural aspects of water have always shaped human coexistence and living conditions. The climate crisis is having an increasingly serious impact on people's lives as a cause of migration.
Soft Philosophy
SOPHI PARK guides visitors through the most important philosophical insights of the past 2,500 years using 10 thematic areas. SOPHI stands for Soft Philosophy and aims to convey the world of philosophy as clearly as possible. Many artists and sponsors contributed to the creation of the park. It is located in the south of the spa gardens in Bad Liebenzell.
The philosophy is named after Sophia, who is over 4,000 years old. She stands for heartfelt education and joie de vivre. She has found a new home in SOPHI PARK, where psychologist and sculptor Dr Klaus Antons has immortalised her in the form of a statue. She stands at eye level with the viewer and radiates sensual yet confident beauty.
Themed trail and digital scavenger hunt
On the Forest Village Theme Trail, you will immerse yourself in the medieval world of the settlers who ventured into the wild Black Forest. The tour starts in the village centre of Bad Liebenzell-Beinberg and leads along fields and forests around the village, passing fantastic views.
With the Actionbound app, you can experience the themed trail on an exciting digital scavenger hunt and follow in the footsteps of the first settlers in the northern Black Forest. You will travel back in time and have to solve puzzles to find your way back to the present. Your smartphone will guide you through history in an entertaining way with audio clips and quiz questions.
Native medicinal herbs
Medicinal herbs have been important to pharmacists for centuries. 160 plant species can be explored in the pharmacy garden in Bad Liebenzell's spa gardens. The medicinal herbs are sorted according to their different areas of application, such as heart/circulation and cough/bronchitis.
The medieval ‘hortus botanicus’ herb garden of the monasteries was the precursor to the botanical gardens established as early as the 16th century. Thanks to the initiative of the Black Forest Association, in collaboration with the pharmacist Friedrich Böckle, the Apothecary Garden was created as a kind of ‘open-air library’ of herbal medicine in the Bad Liebenzell spa gardens.
Our most powerful environment
The Planet Trail allows visitors to explore our most powerful environment in space. It represents a model of the solar system. To help visitors better understand the phases of the moon, Mercury and Venus, these have been coloured to match their real appearance.
Since only the halves of the planets and the moon facing the sun are illuminated, the planetary hemispheres where it is daytime are coloured. In contrast, the halves where it is night-time are black.

Special nature experience
The Monbach Gorge is a special natural attraction in and around Bad Liebenzell. The gorge was formed around 350,000 years ago when the Nagold river cut its way through the red sandstone of the Monbach Valley. Huge masses of water transported rubble and stones here, forming the picturesque gorge. The Monbach Gorge is protected as a nature reserve to preserve its natural character. When hiking through the gorge, you have to change sides several times on slippery stepping stones and leave fallen trees in the stream bed. An impressive natural experience for all hiking enthusiasts.

True helpers
During the grazing season (roughly April to November), 10 to 20 goats usually graze on the castle hill. These goats are used exclusively for landscape conservation and are not kept for milk production. They also have no reason to fear the butcher. The castle hill is quite steep,
so these goats are a great help. To ensure that the castle hill remains as beautiful as it is, the Black Forest Association, led by Heiko Killinger, takes care of its upkeep. Helping hands are always welcome here. Monthly work assignments are rewarded with good entertainment and a hearty snack.
